The company’s founders, Andrew and Peggy Cherng, are aiming to bring traditional Chinese dishes to Americans. And they’re succeeding.

Orange Chicken

Panda Express is famous for its Orange Chicken – crispy fried chicken bites wok-tossed in a sweet, zesty orange sauce. This classic Chinese dish is often served with white rice or steamed vegetables.

The sauce is a mix of orange juice, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, garlic, and sriracha sauce, which is stirred together and thickened with a cornstarch slurry.

Despite being an incredibly high-calorie and high-fat dish, it can still be enjoyed on a vegan diet, as long as the calories are balanced with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Pairing it with steamed rice or super greens can help to keep calories and fat low.

Until now, however, vegans had a pretty limited menu to choose from at the fast-food chain. But this summer, Panda Express rolled out its first-ever vegan version of orange chicken for a limited time. It’s aptly called Beyond the Original Orange Chicken and is available at select locations.

Sweet & Sour Pork

Sweet and sour pork is a classic Cantonese dish that’s easy to make at home. The sauce is made from sugar, ketchup and rice vinegar and is topped with crispy fried pork chops and green and red bell peppers.

It’s also finger-licking delicious! This stir-fry comes with lots of veggies and is a perfect choice for anyone looking to save calories.

This entree has 290 calories, 13g fat, 5g saturated fat, 51g carbohydrate, 25g protein, and 820mg sodium. The sauce, meanwhile, has only 4g of sugar.

Eggplant Tofu

Tofu has been a staple in Chinese cuisine for millennia. It comes in soft, firm and extra-firm varieties, depending on how much water (whey) is extracted from the curd.

The firm and extra-firm types are better for stir-frying and deep frying, while the soft tofu is perfect for delicate soups and dressings. It’s also a great source of protein, so it’s often used as a meat substitute.

Panda Express’s eggplant tofu is one of their best veggie dishes. It’s made with braised eggplant that’s seasoned with sweet and spicy sauce and then topped with crispy cubes of tofu.

Veggie spring rolls are also available at most locations. These are a bit too soggy for us, but they’re tasty nonetheless.

Vegetable Spring Rolls

Panda Express is known for its delicious Orange Chicken, but they also offer veggie spring rolls. These savory, crunchy appetizers come with cabbage, celery, carrots, green onions, and Chinese noodles inside a crispy wonton wrapper.

The veggie spring rolls are a little soggy, but they taste really good and are a great way to get a healthy start to your meal. I’ve only tried this dish at my local Panda Express and it’s not available nationwide, so check with yours before grabbing one.

While we aren’t big fans of fast food, Panda Express is a great option for lunch when you’re in the mood for something different. They have a few entrees that are vegetarian and vegan-friendly, as well as several side dishes, including chow mein, fried rice, super greens, and white steamed rice, Read More
